Results from Event #22, 31st October 2020

Firstly apologies for the late release of the results. I was abducted by a zombie and a small ghost like figure early this afternoon which meant I lost a few hours, and have only just been deposited back on my front doormat, slightly dazed and with little recollection of the events of earlier today.

From what I remember of this morning, there was rain, lots of it, but it didn't put us off and we had 139 runners, ghosts and ghouls, of whom eight had never before had the Fly 5k experience, and ten ran faster than they ever had before in a Fly 5k.

Well done to those who got out there with halloween costumes, even if just limited to pumpkin coloured T shirts and shoes!

Every now and then I get a little pang of "how lovely is this group" - and I had that today. Awful weather, talk of lockdowns, and still we managed to get out there, and we're doing this together. More power us! Here's a sample of your comments today:

"Wind swept, wet and knackered. And feel brilliant because I did it!" "Such a great way to start each weekend with the perfect excuse for meeting up with friends and posting a half decent time. Let’s hope we can keep going under the new rules. #lovefly5k" "Thanks for a Spooktacular run!!" "Wet, windy and wild today but, as ever, I wouldn’t even have contemplated going out if it weren’t for Fly 5k!" "What a miserable rainy and windy morning in Christchurch but I got out and even got a PB so I’m chuffed to bits." "Very wet, muddy and miserable. Fly 5k is the only thing getting me out there this morning." "Wettest, muddiest Fly 5k in history! But the most fun"

Personally it was really nice to be able to share my Fly 5k run with friends and family, and let's continue to get out there for as long as we are still allowed!

So onto the business end of today. We had one age group record set today, from Lionel Mann who broke his own VM80 plus record with a 42:21.

Congratulations to some of our most regular and well known faces, as Justine ANDERSON, Peter BLESSING, Evelyn LUTTERODT and Joanne TANG all hit their 20th Fly 5k.

Also to Nicola ANDERSSON and Clair DRAGE on their 10th Fly 5k.

We had runners from 31 clubs take part (32 including our well loved "not part of a running club" club), and that included a first representation from Havering 90 Joggers, St Austell Running Club and Reigate Priory AC.

Our race winners today were Lesley Locks, who also took the overall first place, with 18:20, and Justin James who took 1st male. Claudine Benstead continues her run of over 90% for age grading, with 90.22%!

Well done to all today, and here's our Halloween podium:

Women 1) Lesley LOCKS, Aldershot, Farnham & District (18:20) 2) Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (19:23) 3) Sally ONN, Blagnac Sporting Club Athlétisme (20:02)

Men 1) Justin JAMES, Unattached (18:36) 2) Dominic REED, Handy Cross Runners (18:41) 3) Andrew MCKILLOP, St Albans Striders (18:49)

Age Graded 1) Claudine BENSTEAD, Okehampton RC (90.22%) 2) Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (85.21%) 3) Lesley LOCKS, Aldershot, Farnham & District (84.36%)

Attached are the full results, also to be found on our website at www.runfly5k.com/latest-results. If anything doesn't look right let me know and I'll do my best to correct it.

Next week includes our 7th inter-club competition. More details will follow in the next few days.

All that's left to say is good night, sleep tight.... and don't let the vampires bite!

Maybe it's because I've been out of the running game myself now for a little while, but when Dani's post came asking for people to submit three words that summed up Fly 5k for them, the word "running"

Dear Fly 5kers, It is with a heavy heart but with very fond memories and lots of new found friends, that today we announce that Fly 5k, the weekly event as we know it, will be coming to a close at our

The hungover Fly 5k after the hosts night out! We enjoyed a beer (or two) and cracked open a really horrible old bottle of Cava, which I blame for the submission form problem! Thanks for all your pati
