Results from Event #23, 7th November 2020

Well, what a sunny morning for a Fly 5k and over 240 of you did it! That’s a record number up from the previous highest turnout in July.

There were loads of heart warming comments demonstrating what a great initiative it continues to be as we begin lockdown 2.0, including:

‘Glorious weather for it’ ‘Thanks again for the motivation’ ‘Enjoyed my first Fly 5k’ ‘Saturday mornings have a purpose again’ ‘Lockdown is what Fly 5k was made for’

There were 51 PBs, 50 first timers, 5 age category records broken (including one of those longstanding men's vets records that Graham mentioned earlier this week), and 40 clubs represented.

Podium results were:

Women 1) Lesley LOCKS, Aldershot, Farnham & District (17:54) 2) Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (18:51) 3) Sarah McGRATH, St Albans AC (18:57)

Men 1) Kieran O’HARA, Havering AC (16:48) 2) Rob TREVOR, Havering AC (17:14) 3) Paul WHEAR, Cornwall AC (17:20)

Age Graded 1) Claudine BENSTEAD, Okehampton RC (92.83%) 2) Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (87.62%) 3) Paul WHEAR, Cornwall AC (87.12%)

And a massive congrats to the following for completing their 20th Fly 5k: Rachel Aldridge, Greg Churchill, Philip Dean, Mark Faughnan, Ruth Holroyd, Lionel Mann, Stuart Middleton, Bernadette Newby, Craig Rowland and Elaine Tuit.

And to the following for completing their 10th Fly 5k: Linda Aird, Peter Blackaller, Alan Castle, Claire Dickinson, Roy Harris, Adrian Jones, Xanthe Mainwaring, Janice Nisbet, Christine Taylor and Julie Tribe.

On Facebook, there was non stop activity and photos of sunshine, mud, smiles, lipstick, dogs, a happy birthday, and a massive congrats to Lochlann for breaking his J10 record set way back at event #5.

It was heaps of fun hosting, and I appreciated even more the effort Graham Smith has put into giving us this event as a way of motivating ourselves, and more importantly, supporting each other.

When the call for future hosts comes round, do put your hand up. It’s a real lift

Maybe it's because I've been out of the running game myself now for a little while, but when Dani's post came asking for people to submit three words that summed up Fly 5k for them, the word "running"
