Updated: Jul 19, 2020

Well done to everyone taking part in today's Fly 5k.

We had 149 runners today, and have now had over 1,000 5k times posted since we started seven weeks ago.

Three age category records were broken. Alex Moffat of St Albans AC took the JM15-17 record in 18:23, Paul Adams of St Albans Striders beat his own VM35-39 record with 16:42, and a time of 28:38 by Brian Yates of Harpenden Arrows gave him the VM75-79 title.

A quieter week than some (with a subtext of hangover recovery for a few of us!), but all the same we had several outstanding performances. Ruth Holroyd of Chiltern Harriers with a lifetime PB of 23:44, and Richard Sved of St Albans Striders with 23:17, his best time since 2013. Richard had a couple of operations on his knee in 2015 and 2016 and it's been a long road back since then. I'm delighted for both of them.

Also a shout out to Kevin Inkles (VM60-64) whose 21:50 is his best 5k time of the last 20 years!

I'm keeping it short and sweet today, so will leave it there, but once again well done all, and on to our podium ..

Big congratulations to our winners and top three today. Emma Stepto of Cornwall AC was first female in 18:45, and our top age graded performance (88.09%) was also from Emma. Will Bowran, just one second off his PB, was first male in 15:45.

Here's the podium in full:

Women 1. Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (18:45) 2. Sarah McGRATH, St Albans AC (19:08) 3. Joanna PARKER, Unattached (19:47)

Men 1. Will BOWRAN, St Albans AC (15:45) 2. Tom HALLING, St Albans AC (16:14) 3. Paul ADAMS, St Albans Striders (16:45)

Age Graded 1. Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (88.09%) 2. Paul GREAVES, St Albans Striders (84.12%) 3. Joanna PARKER, Unattached (83.49%)

Maybe it's because I've been out of the running game myself now for a little while, but when Dani's post came asking for people to submit three words that summed up Fly 5k for them, the word "running"

Dear Fly 5kers, It is with a heavy heart but with very fond memories and lots of new found friends, that today we announce that Fly 5k, the weekly event as we know it, will be coming to a close at our

The hungover Fly 5k after the hosts night out! We enjoyed a beer (or two) and cracked open a really horrible old bottle of Cava, which I blame for the submission form problem! Thanks for all your pati
