Results from Event #70, 11th September 2021

The hungover Fly 5k after the hosts night out! We enjoyed a beer (or two) and cracked open a really horrible old bottle of Cava, which I blame for the submission form problem! Thanks for all your patience while we got that sorted.

Your hosts decided some parkurn tourism was required, because who doesn’t want to get up early after a night on the town? Someone decided on Panshanger, a fantastic trail course with lots of hills, wonderful views and some seriously ancient gnarly old trees! It was great to run with my fellow hosts, our Race Director and other regular Fly 5kers. I will definitely be going back to that one without a hangover soon! By some amazing coincidence it was actually my 70th parkrun for the 70th Fly 5k!

But enough about me… how did you guys all get on today?

Well done to all 131 of you who eventually managed to submit your times! And a huge fly welcome to Brian Collins who ran his first Fly 5k today. There are fewer new joiners these days but please do keep spreading the word to your friends.

Lots of you took advantage of the motivation at parkrun and we saw runners in Australia, Ireland, Scotland and England. The London Thames Bridges Trek 25k race was the location for four ladies today and lots of you were using Fly 5k as preparation for the Great North Run. Good luck to everyone taking part in that tomorrow. There were also slugs! Lots of slugs!

An amazing 11 people ran Fly 5k PBs this morning – you guys just keep on getting faster!

We had 33 different running clubs taking part today. Thanks for your continued support Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers, Body Health Fitness, Bournemouth AC, British Airways AC, Chiltern Harriers, Dacorum & Tring AC, Dunstable Road Runners, Edmonton Running Club, Fairlands Valley Spartans, Fly Runners, Harpenden Arrows, Havering AC, Herts Phoenix, Horsham Joggers, Mid Atlantic Athletics Club, Mile High Run Club, North Herts Road Runners, Phoenix Striders, Rebel Runners Medway, Run Harpenden, Run Redbourn!, Seoul Flyers, Spider Runners, St Albans AC, St Albans Striders, St Edmunds Pacers, Staple Hill Runners, Stopsley Striders, Sydney Striders, Wheathampstead Warriors, Winterton RC, York Tri Club and Your Town Runners.

And for those of you waiting for last weekend’s Inter-Club Competition, they will be following shortly.

See you all for another Fly 5k next weekend and thanks everyone for making today so much fun. I am now absolutely exhausted and going for a lie down.

Fly 5k is the best hangover cure! No really! Trust me, it is!

Until next time…
