Fly 5k
Results from Event #8, 25th July 2020
Updated: Aug 2, 2020
Our eighth Fly 5k, and we still have 20 people in the 100% club having run all eight!.. and plenty of regulars again this week.
So here are some other numbers...
We had 136 runners, 24 Fly 5k PBs were set, and there were seven first timers.
Three age category records were set, 26 running clubs were represented, and we had runners aged from 13 to 79.
The total time spent racing was 214,351 seconds, or 59 hours and 32 minutes, with an average race time of 26 minutes and 16 seconds (24:32 for the men and 28:30 for the women).
The average age graded score was 61% and the average age of runners was 45.
We had three each of Andrews, Brians, Emmas, Matthews and Richards, four Ruths and four Clares (if you count all the different spellings).
Richard Olney had his third PB (so our mascot pig was re-inflated), Steve and Will Bowran did their 8th different route, and we had two group selfies (from North Herts Road Runners and Chiltern Harriers).
Garmin Gate didn't affect us - for a while I couldn't find my watch but I can't really blame that on the ransomers. Despite perhaps a couple of glitches I think we all managed to record our times without too much trouble.
Enough of my pointless rambling and number crunching. Well done to all who ran. The full set of results can be found on the website here:

Congratulations to the three age category record breakers today, all of whom broke their own records. Alex Moffatt took nearly half a minute off his JM15-17 record with 17:58. Ali Young of Chiltern Harriers got her Fly 5k PB and improved on her VW45-49 age record with 19:23, and Harpenden Arrows runner Brian Yates shaved further time off his VM75-79 record with an impressive 28:18.
Our winning-est winner Emma Stepto was again victorious for the women, coming first with 18:46 in the lovely Cornish rain. For the men a consistently top placed runner Tom Halling took the crown this week with 16:19, a minute ahead of the rest of the field, and his second overall win.
On the podium our top three looked like this:
Men 1. Tom HALLING, St Albans AC (16:19) 2. Will BOWRAN, St Albans AC (17:21) 3= Jordan LISTER, St Albans Striders (17:58) 3= Alex MOFFAT, St Albans AC (17:58)
Women 1. Emma STEPTO, Cornwall AC (18:46) 2. Ali YOUNG, Chiltern Harriers (19:23) 3. Jenny MAGINLEY, St Albans Striders (20:21)
