Results from Event #80, 20th November 2021

Maybe it's because I've been out of the running game myself now for a little while, but when Dani's post came asking for people to submit three words that summed up Fly 5k for them, the word "running" didn't even cross my mind! Which is crazy given how much amazing running this community has done each and every Saturday!

I'll be updating the website with the full set of individual results for the 80 events over the next few days, but we've had over 15,000 times submitted and countless personal achievements - PBs that people thought they might never get, and some incredible times. But no, the three words that came to mind for me were fun, support and friendships. And I definitely wasn't alone.

I know we've all said this stuff a lot, and especially over the last couple of weeks, but I think we deserve to all be proud of what we made with this community and the races - not just me, not just the hosts, all of us. Back slapping maybe, but we've had a tough 18 months elsewhere so let's unashamedly celebrate what we created together - the running successes, enjoyment, friendships and laughs it's given us – because we did something really good - together!!

As I did at St Albans parkrun, I want to say a special thanks to all our hosts over the last 18 months. To Steve, Ruth, Daniela, Kate, Rob, Dom, Paul, Heather, Emmanuelle and Mark. Also to Cathy (Catherine Leahy) and Peter who with Steve did so much for the Bovingdon event to happen. Thank you all for keeping the show on the road. You’ve been 1000% brilliant.

As I’ve said before, do please keep posting here if you’d like to. We may not have weekly race results but we still have lots of friends who want to hear what you've been up to and that you got out of bed on Saturday morning!.. and if you have any thoughts yourself as to what else we could do as a community do let me know. We will have a Christmas Day event (via Facebook), and look out for more information about Bovingdon 2022 in due course.

So I’d better crack on with today’s race results...

And what a day. It’s been like the early days of Fly where you could literally spend all afternoon reading the posts and looking at all the photos! Only today it was fewer selfies and more group shots. We had our volunteer takeover at St Albans parkrun (thanks Richard Sved and Cathy Leahy for looking after us), and were also joined by a lot of other Fly 5kers in Verulamium Park. You’ll probably have seen a lot of the pics already and Mark has just added a whole lot more.

It’s great to know there were lots of people in other places too – and many regulars – including Run Redbourn! over in Gadebridge doing their own parkrun volunteer takeover, and others running everywhere from Land’s End to Southbank, from Exmouth and Bournemouth to Basingstoke and Basildon, Great Denham, Penzance, and Lisbon, to name a few!

We had 136 runners taking part in event #80, our final weekly event, including one first timer – welcome Suzanne Enderton Plus several hard fought PBs. Well done all. A total of 36 running clubs took part.

It was great to congratulate our ever presents Donna Irwin and Graham Harper today for completing all 80 Fly 5ks! Not forgetting those very close behind including Kate Dixon, Emmanuelle, Mark Sanders, Joanne Tang and Joanna Parker, who’ve done all but one or two. It’s not a numbers game, but congratulations also to the following who hit milestones today:

50 Fly 5ks : Sylvia MOSS Anne-Marie BULLIVANT

30 Fly 5ks : Hannah CLARK Rob JOHNSTONE Clair WALKER

20 Fly 5ks: Stuart NICHOLAS

10 Fly 5ks: David GUNNS Alexander HELM
