Results from Event #9, 1st August 2020

So that was the ninth Fly 5k, possibly the sunniest on record so far, depending on where you ran! Thank you to all 168 runners who took part this weekend and especially our regulars, an impressive group of 19 ‘fly fans’ who have made it out every Saturday so far!

The group continues to grow in popularity with 32 newbie flyers this weekend and proving that Fly 5k is good for your performance, 27 runners recorded Fly 5k PBs today, and a handful of lifetime PBs too.

The gender equality in Fly 5k is staggering, nearly always 50/50 every weekend and this Saturday was no exception with 84 men and 84 women running!

We had some record breaking age category results:

  • Lesley Locks of Aldershot, Farnham & District not only stole the VW40-44 record by a whopping 28 seconds with a time of 18:18 but was also the first female finisher and took the Fly 5k women's record by 18 seconds too.

  • St Albans AC runner Will Bowran, who was first male and overall, broke his previous record again by just one second to finish in 15:43 (SM18-19).

  • VW45-49- Rebecca Nkoane beat fellow Chiltern Harrier Ali Young’s previous record by 23 seconds, coming home in 19:01.

  • VW70-74 - Patricia Godfrey of Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers beat her own record this week in 32:59.

It’s great to see so many race selfies. Keep sharing those. It’s so encouraging to see your smiling faces and to give encouragement to each other.

Whether you’re aiming for speed or just getting those miles in, you’re welcome at Fly 5k.

Once again, great effort everyone. The full results are here:

Maybe it's because I've been out of the running game myself now for a little while, but when Dani's post came asking for people to submit three words that summed up Fly 5k for them, the word "running"

The hungover Fly 5k after the hosts night out! We enjoyed a beer (or two) and cracked open a really horrible old bottle of Cava, which I blame for the submission form problem! Thanks for all your pati
